Valley Center Stage is excited to present its final play of the 2015-2016 regular season, The Lion in Winter. Described as a "modern day classic of family drama," The Lion in Winter takes the audience on a wild ride inside the castle of Henry II during a Christmas celebration the King has thrown for his guest, newly crowned King of France, Philip II Augustus. The King's three surviving sons, his mistress and his wife, Eleanor, who has been imprisoned since launching a revolt against her husband, are also in attendance at the gathering. Sparks fly with sharp, biting dialogue, shifting loyalties, sibling rivalries and exquisite power plays. The comedic and dramatic storytelling is captivating as these seven passionate characters vie for position and their place in history. Directed by British-born Vince Brady, this production features a well-rounded experienced cast with Peter Cook as King Henry II, Rochelle Wyatt as Eleanor, Dylan Cook as Geoffrey, David Hebert as Richard Lionheart, Ryan Hartwell as John, Austin Matteson as King Phillip II and Rachel Friedley as Alais. "A work of intelligence, astringent wit, and much theatrical skill." - The New York Times "Marvelously articulate language, with humor that bristles and burns." The Los Angeles Times Valley Center Stage has been presenting Improv & Variety shows, plays and special events since 2003.
