Temporary Classroom Assistant
 
$21.00 to $22.20/hour DOE
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8:30-2:00 (5 hours per day/20 hours per week)
School-year-based holidays off
 
There is a strong likelihood that this temporary position will be extended, pending program assessment at 6 weeks.

SCOPE: In this role, you will assist teachers by providing classroom support in the Early Learning Center program environment.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist staff with both long- and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice, and program philosophy.
  • Manage children’s activities and projects as needed.
  • Maintain open communication with coworkers.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Report any suspected abuse to supervisor.
  • Help maintain a safe and healthy environment; administer first aid in a timely manner when needed.
  • Attend in-service and staff meetings when necessary.
  • Keep all appropriate records such as attendance and time sheets.
  • Meet all applicable licensing regulations.
 
QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year work or volunteer work in a food service operation
  • Experience working with young children
  • Ability to adhere to safety practices and procedures as required by state and federal laws
  • Ability to perform the tasks and functions as required by the job including implementing age- appropriate programs and activities and provide positive reinforcement to children
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people
 

 
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES
Prior to First Day of Employment:
  • TB screening and MMR Documentation
  • Department of Child, Youth, and Family Services Portable Background Check
  • MERIT Registration and obtain a STARS ID.
  • Food and Beverage Handler’s Permit
 
Required within 45 days of hire:
  • First aid and CPR card
  • Active Supervision/Safe Arrival and Departure
  • Child Guidance and Support
  • Mandatory Reporting-Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Standards of Conduct
  • Universal Precautions/Blood Borne Pathogens
               
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This position will require extended standing or physical activity. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
