Instructor: Amber Braxton of Amber Braxton Fine Art
What You'll Learn: In this hands-on creative workshop, students will learn how to sculpt a small bird’s nest and companion birds using air-dry clay and simple sculpting tools. Together, we’ll explore how to shape natural forms using our hands, how to create texture that mimics twigs and feathers, and how to build dimension so each piece feels alive and organic.
Students will learn foundational clay techniques including:
-
Forming stable bases and hollow structures
-
Creating texture using basic clay tools and found-inspired marks
-
Attaching pieces securely (like birds to nests)
-
Adding personality and gesture to simple animal forms
-
Preparing clay for painting and sealing
Skill Level/Age Range: Beginner / 8+
Student Instructions: Allow your sculpture to dry fully at home (24–48 hours depending on thickness). You will leave with instructions on how to finish this project once it is dry.
Materials Needed: All materials will be supplied by the instructor.
