Acclaimed photographer and adventurer Scott Rinckenberger will unveil his newest exhibition, Forest Abides: Multigenerational Trees of Snoqualmie Valley, at his namesake gallery in North Bend, WA. This fall show highlights the incredible resilience of the forests that define the Pacific Northwest — from towering Douglas-firs to the moss-draped remnants of old-growth trees. At the heart of Forest Abides is a series of portraits of “nurse stumps,” the survivors of large-scale logging in the Snoqualmie Valley. These ancient stumps, some hundreds of years old, are not merely scars from the past — they are active participants in the regeneration of the forest. From their gnarled, weathered surfaces sprout new generations of trees, signaling the forest’s relentless cycle of renewal, even in the wake of destruction. “The forest abides. It endures, it regenerates, it heals,” says Rinckenberger. “These stumps are not just remnants of an old world — they are alive, sustaining the next generation of trees. They remind us that the damage we’ve done doesn’t have to be permanent. If we give it space, the land will respond with astonishing creativity.” This exhibition isn’t just about the beauty of the forest — it’s a call to action. In an era where environmental protection is under threat, Rinckenberger’s work underscores the urgency of preserving these landscapes. The forests of the Pacific Northwest provide life-sustaining resources, and their health is tied to our own survival. Forest Abides is a powerful visual reminder that when we act as stewards, when we allow nature time and space to heal, the forest will thrive — and so can we. Join us for the opening party on Friday, September 19th from 5 – 9pm, where guests can view the full exhibition, connect with like-minded environmental advocates, and reflect on the deep interconnections between humans and the natural world. This exhibit will be on display at the Scott Rinckenberger Gallery from September 19th through November 30th.
